Snowy Dreams – Maine’s Coastline in Winter

Sometimes you just have to go for it. The weather is never going to get better, the cold is not going away until summer, and the dangers are mostly in your head! That’s the approach I took with my friends and kayak-workshop organizers Paul Richards and Sophie Carlhian right after Thanksgiving.

It looked cold, so we rented a cabin instead of camping, and we had the coast of Maine to ourselves! Properly outfitted with drysuits, we had an amazing time. Despite air temperatures of freezing the first day, it warmed up over the next few and we were able to ride around on the open ocean swells, taking in the glorious rocky coast of Maine and the seals and eagles.

What seemed like an uncomfortable idea ended up in an amazing few days of paddling and relaxing in our own winter cabin in the sunshine! Sometimes, it’s the power of YES.
